Zena Holloway is a British diver, artist and photographer who designs objects and textiles made of grass roots. The successful underwater photographer has seen first-hand the damage done to marine life by pollution, and this inspired her to explore ways of making new and completely organic materials. Holloway discovered that by cultivating grass and allowing the roots to grow into beeswax moulds, she could create a kind of patterned textile. The grass needs to grow for a couple of weeks. Holloway then harvests it, cuts off the grass and uses the roots to make, for example, the kind of design shown here.
