Fridging

The recent U.S. series Shrinking (Apple TV+) has been criticized for using the trope of "fridging". First defined in 1999 by writer Gail Simone and originally called "women-in-refrigerators syndrome," it describes stories in which a female character is killed off so that a male character can be sad and take center stage.
