Milk and sugar?

The British traveller and writer Jonas Hanway (1712-1786) is remembered for being vehemently opposed to tea drinking. In 1756, Hanway wrote a long and rather boring essay on the topic saying that tea damaged the teeth, made people unattractive and weakened the nerves. He clearly never enjoyed a refreshing cup of builder's brew served with milk and sugar. Today, around 65 per cent of people in the UK drink their tea with milk and only 13 per cent take neither milk nor sugar.
