Thanks to a growing middle class, Nigeria is seeing a rising demand for beef. Most of that demand is met by the nomadic Fulani people, who move with their cattle from north to south according to the season.

In recent years, violent clashes over land have erupted between the Muslim Fulani and the largely Christian settled farmers in the south. Since 1964, Nigeria has provided 20 grazing reserves for nomadic herders, but critics say more are needed.

Getting an education is one of the biggest challenges for the Fulani. The Kachia Reserve has 21 primary schools and one secondary school. But, with more than 6,000 pupils, the schools are overcrowded, with up to 120 children in a single classroom, according to Agence France Presse (AFP). The news agency says that more than three million Fulani children do not go to school.
