Are you going to the international sales conference this year?
Yes. Are you?
Yes. It will be my first time. And I’ve just been looking at the website of the hotel. It looks nice!
I haven’t checked it out yet. Where is it?
It’s a lovely spa hotel on the south coast. It has excellent facilities.
Well, we won’t have much time to use them. The programme is usually packed.
I intend to get up early and go for a swim before breakfast. There’s a large heated pool and some whirlpools, too. You can sit in them and let jets of water massage your back and legs.
I’d actually prefer a proper massage.
You can have that, too, if you want.
Which massage did you want, sir?
I wasn’t sure when I booked. I wanted to discuss the options with you.
If you’re not used to having a massage, I would suggest a classic Swedish massage, which can be relaxing or stimulating, depending on what you want.
Sounds good. What are the alternatives?
Our sports massage is to help people who play sports to keep fit and injury free.
Probably not the option for a couch potato like me!
We also have a deep-tissue massage if you have stiffness and muscle knots.
I sit in front of my computer most days and I’m getting a stiff neck and shoulders.
It sounds as though the deep-tissue massage might be the one for you.
How was your early-morning swim?
Wonderful. It’s an infinity pool, so you can swim and look out over the hills at the same time. There’s also a choice of hot, steamy and cooler saunas.
I like the steam room. But it’s better to do that in the evening and have a couple of beers afterwards!
How was the massage?
It was good — if rather painful. I think I should have had the less intense version. I feel like I’ve been run over by a steamroller!
But have your aches and pains gone away?
They have — and been replaced by a few others.
I was thinking of staying on after the conference and having a beauty treatment.
Sounds like a good idea. Is it expensive?
It depends on the treatment. I’ve decided to have the basic facial and a body wrap.
Body wrap? What’s that?
You’re coated with a special mixture — mint and three tea varieties — which leaves your skin feeling softer, healthier and glowing.
You sound like an ad on the telly!
I’m just quoting from the brochure.
And do you have the same mixture on your face?
No. You have a face cleansing followed by a face mask. Then you get your face moisturized.
It all sounds very scientific and a bit messy! Does it work?
You can see for yourself next Monday morning in the office...
