Amazon has been operating in India since 2013. CEO Jeff Bezos has invested $5 billion (€4.4 billion) in its Indian operations.

Now, the online giant is trying to increase its reach by delivering to remote areas of the country, such as Kerala or the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. Here, after being transported by plane and lorry, an Amazon delivery continues on a small wooden fishing boat before being taken by motor scooter to its final destination.

Starting in 2015 with a staff of two, Sabiha Mulla and her business partner began delivering Amazon packages from Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. “It’s not impulsive buying,” Mulla told Quartz, an online news service. “It’s essential buying that happens on Amazon, especially here in the Andamans.”
